- A. Medium Density Fiberboard, Exterior Grade:
- 1. Acceptable Product: Medex.
- 2. Physical Characteristics: Wood-based panel product,
- manufactured from softwood fibers, minimum 90% of
- which obtained from wood residuals, bonded under heat
- and pressure with formaldehyde-free synthetic resin
- binders, meeting requirements of ANSI A208.2 Product
- Class MD-EXTERIOR, and having the following
- properties for sheet material thicknesses up to, and
- including, 3/4 inch:
- a. Density: Minimum 46 pounds per cubic foot.
- b. Internal Bond Strength: Minimum 130 pounds per
- square inch.
- c. Modulus of Rupture: Minimum 5,600 pounds per
- square inch.
- d. Modulus of Elasticity: Minimum 575,000 pounds
- per square inch.
- e. Hardness: Minimum 1000 pounds, Janka modified.
- f. Screw-Holding Capacity: Pounds of force required
- to pull 1 inch long No. 10 sheet metal screw from
- material:
- 1) Face: Minimum 325 pounds.
- 2) Edge: Minimum 275 pounds.
- g. Moisture Content: Maximum 6 percent.
- h. Panel Thickness Tolerance: 0.005 inch, plus or
- minus.

- B. Medium Density Fiberboard, Interior Grade:
- 1. Acceptable Product: Medite II.
- 2. Physical Characteristics: Wood-based panel product,
- manufactured from softwood fibers, minimum 90% of
- which obtained from wood residuals, bonded under heat
- and pressure with formaldehyde-free synthetic resin
- binders, meeting requirements of ANSI A208.2 Product
- Class MD, and having the following properties for
- sheet material thicknesses up to, and including, 3/4
- inch:
- a. Density: Minimum 46 pounds per cubic foot.
- b. Internal Bond Strength: Minimum 115 pounds per
- square inch.
- c. Modulus of Rupture: Minimum 5,200 pounds per
- square inch.
- d. Modulus of Elasticity: Minimum 520,000 pounds
- per square inch.
- e. Hardness: Minimum 1150 pounds, Janka modified.
- f. Screw-Holding Capacity: Pounds of force required
- to pull 1 inch long No. 10 sheet metal screw from
- material:
- 1) Face: Minimum 325 pounds.
- 2) Edge: Minimum 275 pounds.
- g. Moisture Content: Maximum 6 percent.
- h. Panel Thickness Tolerance: 0.005 inch, plus or
- minus.

- C. Medium Density Fiberboard, Fire Retardant:
- 1. Acceptable Product: Medite FR.
- 2. Physical Characteristics: Wood-based panel product,
- manufactured from softwood fibers, minimum 90% of
- which obtained from wood residuals, saturated with
- fire-retardant additives, then bonded under heat and
- pressure with formaldehyde-free synthetic resin
- binders, meeting requirements of ANSI A208.2 Product
- Class MD, and having the following properties for
- sheet material thicknesses up to, and including, 3/4
- inch:
- a. Density: Minimum 45 pounds per cubic foot.
- b. Internal Bond Strength: Minimum 100 pounds per
- square inch.
- c. Modulus of Rupture: Minimum 3,500 pounds per
- square inch.
- d. Modulus of Elasticity: Minimum 375,000 pounds
- per square inch.
- e. Hardness: Minimum 1000 pounds, Janka modified.
- f. Screw-Holding Capacity: Pounds of force required
- to pull 1 inch long No. 10 sheet metal screw from
- material:
- 1) Face: Minimum 300 pounds.
- 2) Edge: Minimum 225 pounds.
- g. Moisture Content: Maximum 6 percent.
- h. Panel Thickness Tolerance: 0.005 inch, plus or
- minus.
- i. Fire Resistance: Class 1 surface flame spread
- when tested in accordance with UL 723.
